Call to Order

  • Welcome and approval of October minutes: Will make sure they are added and will approve next month

EHCO Accomplishments 

  • Halloween contest prizes distributed

Neighborhood Accidents and Destruction 

  • Another brick monument has been destroyed (Bancroft and Michigan Streets)
  • Community is interested in discussing the number of accidents at 10th and Dequincy

IMPD Update

IMPD stopped by the meeting to share information with Black Friday safety tips, East District contacts, location to submit traffic complaints and vehicle theft tips. Highlights available below and view all information, view this PDF.

  • Free Club for Kia and Hyundai Owners: Theft of Kias and Hyundais continue to be a problem – owners of either make can get a free club to help deter criminals. To get a club go to IMPD’s East District at 201 N. Shadeland Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46219. For questions, call (317) 327-6200.
  • Submitting Traffic Complaints: If people are speeding, parking illegally or breaking other traffic safety laws, you can submit a complaint to the following: indy.gov/activity/send-a-traffic-complaint.
  • Annual Clothe-a-Child Event: IMPD’s East District will be sponsoring five kids in this year’s Indy Public Safety Foundation Clothe-a-Child event. To help reach the goal,  they are seeking donations through December 8 at  giveipsf.org/cac2023

New ECHO Logo 

EHCO will be updating our signs and logo to include the word “Historic,” and that is why we will be having our logo updated. There are two students in the neighborhood who will be assisting and providing ideas and listening to community feedback  at the December 2023 Community Meeting. 

Updates on Grants From the Fundraising Committee

  • INRC Grant: #1: Signal Box Painting
  • INRC Grant #2: The grant has been submitted and we will know by December 15 if it has gone through. This grant includes funds for monument fixes, promotional items, etc.
  • ICBI $1,500 Grant: A subcommittee attending the Indy Community Building Committee (ICBI) recently completed their six sessions. By attending these sessions, the group learned helpful information to fundraise and strengthen a community. With the completion of the grant, EHCO received a $1500 grant. 
  • Business Meeting

Historic Tax Credits (info on EHCO website)

If you are making significant improvements to your house ($10,000 or more in costs) consider applying for Historic Tax Credits early in your planning phase or before!  You could receive tax credits equal to 20% of the cost of the project. 

Vacancy on the EHCO Executive Committee: Vice President

  • Elections: December will hold elections for 2023 executive committee membership.
  • VP Opening: Anyone interested in becoming VP, contact a member of the executive committee

Mariam Alam – Newsletter Update

  • Volunteers are also always helpful to distribute the quarterly printed newsletter. 

Tess Mangine – Treasurer’s Report 

  • There is $475.28 in the EHCO account
  • Tess asked if we are able to use NESCO’s tax exempt ID for any purchases in the future, and they said we can

Kevin Sweetland – Updates on the Near East Side (NESCO)

  • Bosart Brown Neighborhood Association:  Has new leadership 
  • Friends of Ellenburger Petition: The proposal to add a three-way stop at Ellenburger Pkway and St. Clair has been approved by the City Council and is now with DPW for approval

Heather Keeney – Social Media 

  • Facebook: The Emerson Heights FB page has 2,559 followers, 1880 active members
  • Fb within the last Month: 15 approved, 25 declined, 15 blocked. 276 posts.
